Add / Edit Event Categories

Step 1: Select Add Event Type from Menu

From the left-hand menu, hover over Events, then select Event Types.

Step 2: Add Event Type Information

Fill out the form on the left with the following details & images:

  1. Name (required): Event Category Name
  2. Slug: this will auto-populate after you click the “Add New Event Type” button. If you want it to be a specific slug, you can opt to create your own. It should only contain letters, numbers, and/or hyphens. E.g.: The event category is called “Fried Chicken”. If you do not add your own slug, it will automatically be created as “fried-chicken”.  If you only want the slug to be “chicken”, then you will need to set this in the Slug field.
  3. Parent Term: This is used for items such as locations and Capital One sub-categories. If you are adding a new location, it is important to assign it to the parent category called “Locations”.
  4. Description: Required for all categories except locations.
  5. Hide on Frontend: Checking this will prevent this event category from showing on the event listing menus (popups, drop-downs, sidebars). This is typically used when you want to create a new category for a group of events that you’ll link to from a newsletter, but you don’t want the category showing on the website.
  6. Image: This is the image for the All Categories Popup (https://sobewff.org/events/?cats=1).
    Image size = 900 x 690 pixels
  7. Event Type Header: This is the event type listing page header for desktop (e.g. https://sobewff.org/event-type/brunches-lunches/).
    Image size = 2100 x 500 pixels
  8. Event Type Header [mobile]: This is the event type listing page header for mobile (e.g. https://sobewff.org/event-type/brunches-lunches/).
    Image size = 384 x 200 pixels
  9. Event Image Overlay: Disregard / not required

Note: If you are creating a hidden category, you do not need to upload #6 Image for the all events popup. The desktop and mobile images are still required.

Step 3: Publish Event Type

Click the blue Add New Event Type button to add the new event type to the website.

Step 4: Add Events to the New Event Type

Find the event(s) you would like to add to this category. Edit each event one-by-one. Use the Event Types box in each individual event to add the event(s) to the new category.
